A Shocking Statistic You've Likely Never Heard...
Approximately 9,500 Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer every day. When I first heard this statistic I couldn't believe it. Most people are oblivious to this fact. As someone who worked in the sun 13 hours daily as a Police Officer, I became concerned. (Yes ... people with dark skin get sunburned and skin diseases).
Many times my arms and the back of my neck got sun-burned. It was uncomfortably painful and dangerous to my health.
Skin cancer is a concern for anyone working in the sun during summer months. (BTW: You can 100% get sunburned during winter months too).
I would apply sun block on my arms, face and back of my neck prior to my shift. But once I began sweating this was negated. Reapplying during the shift was messy and typically didn't happen. Many co-workers (who were all fair-skinned) had similar issues during summer. Not only were they worried about sunburn (and an unsightly farmer's tan), they also feared consequences from skin cancer.
I heard similar concerns from others working hours under the sun ... Construction workers, contractors, technicians, postal workers...the list is endless.
Because my co-workers and I suffered from 12+ hours of damaging UV rays, I knew I had to do something about it.
Originally a pre-med student with a background in bio-chemistry, I began researching materials which block harmful UVB rays.
Here's a quick lesson for you...
There are two basic types of ultraviolet rays that reach the earth's surface—UVB and UVA. UVB rays are responsible for producing sunburn. The UVB rays also play the greatest role in causing skin cancers, including the deadly black mole form of skin cancer (malignant melanoma).
During my research I noticed claims of other long sleeve shirts offering UVB protection. All were primarily geared toward fishermen. None were breathable and didn't feel comfortable against my skin. The fitments were loose and unacceptable for police work and trades where loose clothing was a safety hazard due to snagging.
Before long, I sourced a material with our clothing factory which blocked UVB rays. It was also thin and breathable. The result was our Long Sleeve Silver Elite Shirt.
Designed to be form-fitting yet not too tight, it offers a clean-looking second-skin look without constriction typical of compression shirts. This is especially important for Police Officers wearing it beneath their uniform shirts with their sleeves exposed.
In addition to UVB protection, I infused the material with Silver (Ag). Silver has incredible natural anti-bacterial properties which fight odor, itch and related skin issues. It'll make you feel cooler, drier and more comfortable in the heat.
Long story short, I designed this for you!
DID YOU KNOW ... Many officers with tattoos are concerned about their artwork fading? Some police departments (and other businesses) mandate tattoos be covered. Because of this, countless people have messaged us expressing love for this shirt.
Many of us don't have the luxury of working in air conditioning during summer. We work hard to put food on our tables by any means possible. And for many it means working long hours in the hot sun. Now you'll no longer have to suffer as before. The Long Sleeve Silver Elite Shirt was designed for your relief, and to make your time outdoors enjoyable and safer!
Respectfully,
Suresh
